Write Size In Education

Why Writing is so Important in School

All great ideas are usually written down first, whether it’s a technology idea, a story for a book, or a presentation at work . They all start with a pencil / pen and a piece of paper.

Handwriting is used every day in many ways and for many reasons.  Writing plays a particularly big role in a child’s education, from Primary school to university whether it be taking down notes, written examinations, class work or homework. Poor handwriting can have a pervasive effect on a child’s school experience and performance.

Handwriting in pre-school and reception classes are linked to basic reading and spelling achievement, so by helping children to write and form letters on paper will mean they are learning its sound and recognition when reading.

Helping children learn to write will mean skills such as handwriting, reading and spelling are reinforced, therefore promoting early achievement.

Giving a child a writing tool that is too big for their hand will often lead to them seeing handwriting as a stressful and time consuming task. This will cause motivation for writing to greatly reduce, leading to lack of practice that may further compound difficulties with writing.
